Causes of Knee Pain
Most knee injuries seen in our clinic are non-traumatic, meaning there has been no specific trauma to the knee and symptoms have developed gradually over time. An example being, iliotibial band syndrome.
Another cause of knee pain is a having a traumatic event such as a fall or a direct blow to the knee. This type of mechanism can often cause significant injury to structures within the knee joint itself such as cruciate ligament, collateral ligament and cartilage.
Other common knee problems seen in our clinic include:
Bursitis - inflammation of the fluid-filled sac called the bursa, which protects and cushions the joint
Patellofemoral joint syndrome which causes pain in the front of the knee around the kneecap
Osgood-Schattler Disease, a common cause of anterior knee pain which mostly affects active adolescent patients.
Post Surgical Rehabilitation - Physiotherapy is an important part of the recovery and rehabilitation process following knee surgery, for example following a knee replacement, or an anterior cruciate ligament or medial collateral ligament operation ACL or MCL operation.
